Gunmen were reported to have attacked two security locations in parts of Rivers State on Sunday.
The attacks were said to have happened at about 23:30 pm on April 24, 2021, during which eight security were allegedly killed.
It was gathered from a reliable source that the attacks by the gunmen were carried out simultaneously on the Joint Task Force (JTF) checkpoint along Airport Road, Omagwa and Customs checkpoint at Isiokpo both in Rivers State.
A source said, “two burnt corpses were recovered at the JTF checkpoint while three were recovered at the customs checkpoint and three other bodies recovered at another location.
“A rifle each was stolen from the JTF and Customs officers while two Hilux pick-up vans with sirens were also carted away from the customs,” the source added.
The source added: “With all these gotten, they proceeded to attempt to attack Isiokpo Police Area Command but Policemen repelled them.
“Police officers in the area are on red alert, as they are currently hunting for the attackers.”
Meanwhile, the Rivers State police command has confirmed the incident but said it was yet to ascertain the number of casualties.
Speaking to our correspondent via the telephone, the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said the Commissioner of Police, Eboka Friday, has activated an investigation into the attack to ascertain the identity of attackers.
