Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated Nigerian singer, Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, following her remarkable victory at the 67th Grammy Awards on Sunday.
She clinched the Best African Music Performance award for her hit song, Love Me JeJe.
In a post shared on X on Monday, Sanwo-Olu celebrated Tems’ win as a testament to her remarkable talent and unwavering commitment. He wrote, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Temilade Openiyi @temsbaby, for winning the Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards with her song ‘Love Me JeJe.’”
“This historic achievement marks her as the first Nigerian artist to win in this category, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication,” he added.
Sanwo-Olu also took the opportunity to acknowledge other Nigerian nominees who have made significant contributions to Nigeria’s global musical presence. He expressed, “I also commend our other Nigerian nominees, Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, and Davido, for their outstanding contributions to music.”
“Your artistry continues to elevate Nigeria’s presence on the global stage, and we are immensely proud of your accomplishment,” he concluded.
In addition to Sanwo-Olu’s words of praise, President Bola Tinubu, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and music star Davido are among other notable figures who have congratulated Tems on her groundbreaking Grammy win.
