Kano Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated an 11-man committee to investigate and resolve the ongoing crisis within the Yoruba community in the state.
The committee, headed by Professor Usman Muhammad, is tasked with addressing the internal conflict between two groups loyal to different leaders.
The crisis, which has generated accusations and counter-accusations, prompted the governor’s Special Adviser on Inter-Community Relations for Yoruba Affairs, Alhaji Abdulsalam Abiola Abdulateef, to seek intervention.
The committee’s terms of reference include:
1. Inviting the two groups to address the crisis
2. Receiving submissions from relevant associations and individuals
3. Dialoguing with organisations, including the Kano Emirate Council
4. Identifying the immediate and remote causes of the crisis
5. Proffering solutions to resolve the situation
The committee has four weeks to submit its report to the government.
Chairman Professor Muhammad assured the government that the committee would conduct its work without fear or favour.
Bishop Ransome Bello, former CAN chairman, expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to find a lasting solution.
Special Adviser Abdulateef called on the Yoruba community to embrace peace and cooperate with the committee, emphasising the importance of unity and respect for their culture.
