Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris distributed 830 motorcycles to members of the Vigilante group and twenty-six posh cars as official vehicles to his commissioners in the state.
The newly distributed vehicles to the commissioners consisted of Hilux and Jeeps, customized according to each commissioner’s preference, with the necessary customs duty duly paid, assured the governor.
He warned commissioners against making Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, their permanent abode without regularly visiting their localities to interact with the people.
Comrade Idris emphatically told them that every commissioner must travel around to stay in touch with their people and must contribute materially to other needs, or they risk being removed.
“No commissioner should sell their vehicle; these are for your official engagements to enable you to move around and solve transportation difficulties, especially when travelling to your communities to interact with the populace, listen to their needs or problems, and bring them to my attention and action.”
“I have made it clear that my administration is a people-oriented government of collective responsibility without the governor being a solitary playmaker.”
Governor Idris also informed the Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly and other members present at the event that the government has ordered new official vehicles for the legislators, which have begun to arrive in Lagos for onward journey to Kebbi in a short period.
In a related development, the governor distributed 730 motorcycles to vigilantes to complement the operations of conventional security services in tackling security challenges.
The governor announced that 30 motorcycles have been provided to vigilantes in each of the 16 local government areas, while those serving in Birnin Kebbi, Argungu, Bagudo, Danko-Wasagu, and Yauri received 50 motorcycles each.
Already, the government has presented operational vehicles to the Police, the Army, the DSS, as well as the Special Adviser on Security and the Vigilante Commander, to enhance security surveillance, crime detection, and control.
