Niger Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has reaffirmed his commitment to continuous close partnership with security agents to address security challenges.
The governor stated this when he played host to the Commanding Officer, Naval Outpost Shagunu, in Borgu Local Government Area of the State, Navy Captain Gabriel Ogbodo at the Government House, Minna.
Governor Umaru Bago used the medium to applaud the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, for responding swiftly to the need for security on the waters, saying, “It has always been an area of insecurity”.
He assured the Commanding Officer of the support of the state government and host community towards securing the area.
The Governor requested for the recruitment of Nigerlites into the Nigerian Navy especially from the host community to give hope to the common man.
The Commanding Officer, Naval Outpost Shagunu, Navy Captain Gabriel Ogbodo said his visit was to inform the Governor of the Survey for the proposed Naval base at Shagunu, adding that the base will commence operations as soon as possible.
He revealed that communication has been established with the Emirate and the host community.
The Commander said the water has been used to smuggle goods and light weapons for criminal activities, assuring that the problem will be tamed.
