Gov Aliyu distributes aid to students, farmers in Sokoto

Governor Ahmed Aliyu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Islamic scholars and boosting agricultural productivity across Sokoto State.

Speaking on Friday at the state government house at an event marking the distribution of financial and food assistance to Malaman Zaure and farm inputs to farmers’ associations in the 23 local government areas, the governor emphasised the importance of sustaining religious and economic empowerment initiatives.

Addressing attendees in the spirit of Ramadan, Governor Aliyu underscored the vital role of Islamic scholars in guiding society and pledged continued support to ensure their well-being.

“As we observe this blessed period, our administration remains committed to supporting the pillars of Islamic knowledge and propagation,” he stated.

The governor announced ongoing monthly stipends for Imams, their deputies, and Muazzims across the state.

“Additionally, over 90 Jumu’at mosques receive regular financial support, with many undergoing renovations to enhance worshippers’ comfort.

“To strengthen Islamic propagation, the government has also provided vehicles to various religious organizations and revived the State Hisbah Board, equipping it with offices, patrol vehicles, and essential tools to combat immoral acts.”

Beyond religious support, the Sokoto State government is intensifying efforts to empower farmers and reduce poverty. During the event, Governor Aliyu distributed pumping machines, grinding machines, and fertilizers to 91 communities to boost irrigation, reduce unemployment, and enhance food production.

“This initiative is part of our broader strategy to empower our people, especially in rural areas. I urge all beneficiaries to use these resources wisely for maximum impact,” he advised.

Governor Aliyu reiterated his administration’s dedication to poverty alleviation and youth empowerment, promising continued interventions to enhance livelihoods. He called on religious leaders to preach peace and unity in Nigeria while urging citizens to embrace the values of patience, compassion, and solidarity during Ramadan.
