The President of the Kwamkur Samuel Foundation for Justice and Peace Development, Barrister Kwamkur Samuel Vondip, has tasked Nigerian youths to seek and acquire additional skills besides academic or paper qualifications.
In a statement to mark this year’s International Youth Day, Kwamkur equally enjoined the youths to learn more national and international languages for better integration and opportunities and to re-examine the purpose and level of their political involvement.
He stated that attention should be given to the policies, credibility, and past records of political parties and candidates as the perimeter upon which support is based, not personal relationships or stomach infrastructure, as may be the case.
“Youths must avoid being used as thugs at all times. Careful research has shown that politicians who take advantage of young people as thugs have better programs and plans for their biological children to take over the leadership after them.
“Priority should be given to the dignity of labour and hard-earned resources rather than dirty gains while learning and acquiring principles of balance assessment and criticism far and above the usual political affiliation sidings.
“Most importantly, the youth should pay attention to our changing climate and be kind to the environment. It’s trite that as “respect is earned”, so also is leadership taken, not given through adequate preparation and understanding of time,” he advised.
Kwamkur further explained that International Youth Day 2023 will emphasize how the youth of today can integrate and apply green skills to foster environmentally responsible choices both in their professional endeavours and daily lives.
He added that the theme for this year is apt and timely. If a young person is gifted, the evidence of such a gift should be seen through his behaviours, creativity, and the changes he or she brings to the table.
