A Katsina philanthropist and educationist Dr Kabir Magaji Gafia has vowed to keep supporting the education of the less privileged and the orphaned school children who have lost their parents.
Magaji Gafia who is the Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board disclosed this today at the flag-off of the assistance distribution to the children by the Deputy Governor Katsina State Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe in Kaita town.
Dr Gafia said society must rise up to support such children especially when it’s been realized they have a keen interest in learning, arguing that if they are left un-catered for they may turn to something else.
“We need to assist such categories of children especially if they have zeal to achieve something meaningful in their lives.
They are an asset to the society if properly utilized and assisted, and some of them if left without the needed assistance may turn out to be a disaster to the society”.
Dr Magaji announced that he has now expended an amount of nearly 15 million naira to purchase uniforms, books, and other learning materials for the Orphan school children as well as cash assistance.
In his remark, the Katsina State Deputy Governor Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe thanked the Foundation owner for the gesture and urged other well-meaning citizens to emulate him.
Jobe said the State Government has recently launched a program of Goat distribution to poor women for rearing. He said it was done with an intent to empower the women.
The Deputy Governor said most of the women chosen are poor, some have lost their husbands and have been left with children suffering without assistance.
“The State government has vision in its programs, some of the programs are implemented with intent to empower the less privileged in the society.” He concluded.
