The Iyalode Theresa Laduntan Oyekanmi Foundation has honoured two of the best graduates in community health nursing and public health nursing from the Nursing Education Department, University College Hospital, Ibadan, for their dedication to academic excellence.
Olayinka Omowunmi Tejuosho, who emerged as the best-graduating student in community health nursing, and Oluwabusola Blessing Onakunle, the best-graduating student in public health nursing, were honoured by the Foundation during the graduation ceremony of the school held at the Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, UCH, Ibadan, recently.
The Iyalode Theresa Laduntan Oyekanmi Foundation noted that the non-profit organisation is dedicated to empowering, inspiring, and uplifting women, children, and indigents, with a particular focus on health and education.
The Foundation stated further that these were the areas of expertise of Iyalode during her career as a trained nurse and teacher. It stated that Iyalode Theresa Laduntan Oyekanmi is a respected woman leader and traditional high chief of Ibadanland, and the Foundation was established in her honour to give back to society.
A plaque and a token cash gift were given to the best-graduating students.
Speaking in appreciation of the gesture, one of the recipients, Olayinka Omowunmi Tejuosho, said, “I was actually surprised, as I was not expecting it, so I will like to say a very big thank you to the Foundation for the award given to me today.
“This is like an encouragement for me because the certificate in community health nursing that I received today is just like a stepping stone. Because of this motivation, I will try as much as possible to put in more effort so I can continue to get better.”
