Lawyer to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has refuted claims that the recently forfeited properties by a Federal High Court in Lagos belong to the embattled Emefiele or any of his immediate family members.
In a statement signed by Olawale Fapohunda, Esq., the lawyers clarified that the assets in question, allegedly connected to Anita Joy Omoile and her companies, including DeepBlue Energy Limited, are not owned by Emefiele or any member of his immediate family.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we categorically disassociate our client from the ownership of the assets in question,” the statement reads.
“The assets do not belong to our client or any member of his immediate family.”

The statement highlighted that Justice Bogoro of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, had issued a final forfeiture order on the properties, but noted that Justice Aneke, another judge of the same court, had previously lifted an interim forfeiture order on the same assets.
Clarifying further, the legal team stated that DeepBlue Energy Limited, incorporated in 2009, is owned by a relative of Emefiele but has no direct connection to him.
They urged the public and relevant stakeholders to refrain from associating Emefiele with the forfeited properties, stating that the reports misrepresent the facts.
“The misinformation being circulated is misleading and unfair to our client,” the statement added. “We call on the public to rely on verified facts rather than speculation.”
