One man that speaks for millions; the maxim truly represents the phenomenon of Mr. Femi Falana; lawyer, activist, senior advocate, rights advocate and campaigner, scourge of bad leaders, succor to the oppressed, famous solicitor, father of famous entertainer, husband of a lawyer, delight of interviewers, leading light of the civil society community, inspiration to the hopeless and conscience of the nation.
He is likely much more. Falana, next in prominence only to his late hero and inspiration, Gani Fawehinmi, SAN, in defending the honour and constitutional rights of the downtrodden and fighting for a just and egalitarian society, has a name and reputation that ring intercontinental.
Like Fawehinmi, Falana, at great personal cost and discomfort, has been battling men of powers and the oppressive ruling class, since the military era, all for the people and practically nothing for keeps, as material gain.
The return of democracy has cemented the Falana Legacy, as a voice of the voiceless, defender of the defenceless, with convictions that can’t be bought.
Like his late boss, the Ekiti-born lawyer has truly earned the Senior Advocate of the Masses (SAM) decor. Nigeria owes him. The current democratic experience owes him. He has demonstrated that the instrumentality of law can be effective in the campaign for social justice. Femi Falana has truly etched his name in the history book.
