FECA Provost sacked over infractions ― Governing Board

The Governing Council of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA) Ondo state, on Tuesday said the former acting Provost of the institution, Dr Emmanuel Moyinjesu, was relieved of his post over some alleged infractions, violations and non-compliance with working rules of the institution.

This was disclosed by a member of the Governing Council of the school, Dr Benson Enikuomehin, while briefing newsmen on the sack of Moyinjesu and the immediate appointment of Dr Akinyemi Fadiyimu as the new acting Provost of FECA.

Enikuomehin while speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Bayo Oyero, said the decision to remove Moyinjesu came after series of advice, cautions and warning which he failed to adhere or comply with.

According to him, the sacked provost, Moyinjesu had committed a number of infractions which are too gloomy to gloss over. These infractions are becoming noticeable and embarrassing and may sink the board and the system if we fail to act fast.

The Board members at various meetings had cautioned him, reprimanded him, and offered advice but to no avail and fed up with all these because the man was not yielding and we had to report him to our supervisory body.

Apart from being cautioned by the governing board, some experienced and senior officials of the institutions also cautioned him but it yielded no result, taking unilateral decisions without informing or seek the board approval.

Enikuomehin said the supervisory body, the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) was informed about the atrocities of Moyinjesu and he was summoned but failed to provide an explanation for these infractions saying “the facts are obvious and the Council asked him to put it to paper”

He, however, said the ARCN ordered Moyinjesu to step aside pending the conclusion of the investigation by a panel and said ” this necessitated the appointment of Fadiyimu as the acting provost”

Enikuomehin while speaking on the protest by the lecturers of the school, over the choice of Fadiyimu over other senior staff of the school, said the appointment is not by position

He said “the lecturers have the right to protest and demonstrate their grievances but it should be channelled through appropriate quarters. But the appointment of Fadiyimu should be seen as a round peg in the right hole.

He disclosed that a new substantive provost will be put in place by ARCN, noting that application had been submitted by some interested applicant but said “the lecturers should not be seen as being sponsored by the applicants, it is going to be to their disadvantage.

He, however, appealed to the lecturers to return to the classrooms for the interest of peace and development of the institution.
