Farmers protest herdsmen killings in Ore

tiv farmers fulani herdsmenFARMERS from Ikareland at the weekend protested in Ore, in Odigbo local government area of Ondo over the ‘incessant’ killings of farmers by Fulani herdsmen.

The protest followed the recent hacking to death of a famer Orimisan Balogun, who challenged some herdsmen for destroying his farmland.

The protesters mostly women in their hundreds alleged the herdsmen of committing atrocities, like maiming, raping and killing of farmers in the area.

The protesters, holding leaves and chanting various songs visited the palace of Olore, threatening to take laws into their hands if something urgent was not done about the menace of the herdsmen I’m the area.

Speaking at the palace of the monarch, the leader of the group, Chief Owoleye Obilana said it was high time the security operatives in the area nip the atrocities of the herdsmen in the bud before they kill all farmers in the land.

All efforts to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) on the development were not successful but a police officer who spoke with Nigerian Tribune said about four persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
