Fake teachers’ recruitment advert not from us, Lagos govt warns

The Lagos State government has dismissed the claim that its Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) is currently recruiting teachers for post-primary schools in the state, labelling the vacancy advertorial as fake.

Mrs Olubusola Abidakun, the Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, refuted the claim in a statement released by Mr Kayode Sutton, Head of the Public Affairs unit, on Wednesday.

The Permanent Secretary urged job seekers and the public to disregard the advertorial circulating on social media, emphasizing that TESCOM is not conducting any recruitment as suggested by the fake directive.

Mrs Abidakun stated that the Commission had become aware of a false advertorial in the public domain, purportedly from TESCOM, inviting people to apply for “ad-hoc staff” positions in subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Physical and Health Education, and Information Technology.

The advertorial instructed applicants to submit their applications to the Chairman’s Office and the Workforce Division, Administrative & Human Resource Department, by 20th July 2023.

“We want to categorically state that this advertorial did not originate from our commission, and we did not authorize anyone to issue such a directive on our behalf. It is also important to note that ‘ad hoc teachers’ are not part of our commission, and there is no individual named Otufodurin R.T. mentioned as a signatory to the fake recruitment directive in TESCOM,” the statement read.

“Our recruitment exercise for the Teaching Service is solely conducted through the Commission’s employment portal. Therefore, we advise individuals interested in joining our workforce to await the official announcement of the portal’s opening to submit their applications.”

“We caution against falling into the hands of fraudsters, as the state government does not engage in covert recruitment and does not collect money from job seekers. Our recruitment process is based solely on merit. So, be warned.”
