One of the problems facing our country today, is students failing in their academics. Based on my findings, most students across the country view the following factors as reasons for their failures. One of the most noticeable reasons for students’ failure according to research, is the incompetency of teachers.
The incompetency of teachers nowadays seems questionable. This is because many teachers employed in the teaching profession are lazy , do not come to work on time. Also teachers don’t study the contents of literal materials before delivering a lecture. This attitude will definitely hinder the student from learning appropriately and being fully prepared for examination. Another factor to consider is the relevance of books used. Most in Nigeria don’t own a library and the few that do lack current and up to date books. It is important for book to be relevant for students to be able to keep up to date, according to the syllabus.
On the other hand, students also play major roles in their failure in academics. Some of them don’t see the need for education so they become rebellious in school, which affect grades. Some lose focus and concentration due to peer influence, poor parental guidance/ upbringing. It will be a thing of great joy if students can come to grips and be serious with their studies for their own good. Life will be much more easier and better if the rate of success overrides the rate of failure.
