The history of efo riro is deeply rooted in the Yoruba culture. It is traditionally prepared with some species of vegetable. It is prepared with mostly found locally meat, fish and a variety of spices. The choice of vegetable and protein is based on personal preference and their availability.
Efo riro is a rich vegetable soup that is native to the Yorubas of western Nigeria. The vegetables that can be used to cook soup are efo shoko or efo tete.
Ingredients:
- Bunches of green vegetables spinach
- Red bell pepper.
- Scotch bonnet pepper.
- onions.
- palm oil.
- locust bean.
- Dried palamu fish.
- Smoked ponmo, washed and diced.
- Seasoning.
How to make Efo-Riro
Slice your vegetables into particles.
Pour palm oil in the pot and put on the fire and allow to (slightly bleach) Pour your pepper, onions, ponmo, palamu, seasoning in the slightly bleached oil and let it cook for about 10 minutes together.
Rinse your sliced vegetables very well and pour inside the stew, stir together and let it cook for about five minutes. You can now serve your Efo riro with any solid of your choice.
