The King of Juju music and legendary guitarist, Chief Sunday Ishola Adegeye, popularly known as King Sunny Ade, is among the top dignitaries that will receive honours as the Efon Alaaye community in Efon Local Government Area of Ekiti State celebrates Efon Day 2023 next weekend.
In the line-up of honorees of the day are also the state governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji (BAO), and the Senate Leader, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB), as the ancient kingdom of Efon Alaaye gears up for the grand finale Efon Day 2023 celebration.
In all, 10 highly-placed Nigerians are billed for honour on the epoch, according to a statement by the Chairman of the Efon Alaaye Day 2023 Media Sub-Committee, Prince Sunday Adeyemi-Adejolu.
According to the statement, all necessary arrangements for the success of the week-long Efon Day 2023 Celebrations had been lined up by the Central Planning Committee headed by Panaf Olajide Olakanmi, a lawyer and businessman.
He said the weeklong event would commence on Monday, August 21, 2023, with traditional prayers and cultural activities “to demonstrate the solidarity, love, peace, unity, and development in the community.”
Among others, there will be a local government activities day where the inauguration of projects and other community development initiatives by the Efon Local Government Council will be showcased, while sports and recreation and visits to tourist attractions in the community, as well as the final of the Efon Unity Cup Football Competition, will be decided.
There will also be Efon Salvation Day Prayers (Ojo Idupe Igbala Efon) under the auspices of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Efon Alaaye Chapter, and a Charity Programme by the Efon-Alaaye Community in the United Kingdom (UK) and Europe, as well as a Free Medical Outreach.
A Jumat Service at the Central Mosque and an event by the Efon Youths’ League will follow, as will a symposium entitled Efon Alaaye Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.
A variety show and beauty pageant will cap the day.
Adeyemi-Adejolu said the Grand Finale of the Efon Alaaye Day 2023 celebration will feature the unveiling of the official website of Efon Alaaye Kingdom; Parades and Traditional homages to Oba Emmanuel Adesanya Aladejare, Agunsoye II, the Obalufon Alaayemore, and Alaaye of Efon Kingdom; a Special Exhortation and Counselling by Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon; honours and awards to some of the outstanding Efon Alaaye citizens and three other eminent Nigerians.
The high point of the grand finale events, according to Adeyemi-Adejolu, is the fund-raising launch of N250 million, which is the first tranche of the N1 billion Efon Alaaye Strategic Development Fund.
The Secretary of Efon Alaaye Development League, Mr Afolabi Ige, who is the Secretary of the Efon Day 2023 Central Planning Committee, said adequate preparations had been made for a successful outing to receive eminent personalities from different parts of Nigeria and beyond.
