The economic empowerment team of the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) in Ekiti State, under the #DigiGirls project, has disclosed plans to empower 30 secondary school girls across the state with tech skills.
In a statement jointly signed and released over the weekend, the fellows confirmed that “the team is on a mission to revolutionise the economic landscape for young girls and is set out to bridge the digital divide and prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
“Through carefully crafted training sessions, the #DigiGirls (the beneficiaries) are not merely learners; they are emerging as digital trailblazers, equipped with skills that transcend the classroom. With this, CYFI is ensuring that a tech revolution is breaking the mold in Ilawe Ekiti.”
The 30 beneficiaries are from Corpus Christi College, United High School and Oniwe Community High School, Ilawe Ekiti.
Giving details about the project, the statement hinted that “the #DigiGirls have delved into the world of photography, graphics design, and web design – unlocking their creative potential and discovering the vast possibilities that technology offers. From mastering the fundamentals to creating captivating designs, these girls are rewriting the narrative.
“The #DigiGirls project is not just about acquiring technical skills; it’s a movement to instill confidence, foster innovation, pave the way for these young minds to become leaders in their communities and beyond and digitally empower them to become world beaters.”
The team, which consists of five young Nigerians namely, Tanimowo Oluwatoyosi, Balogun Temitayo, Oyetunji Abdulfatai, Blessing Dada and Kayode Teslim, expressed gratitude to the schools, and the sponsors, as well as the facilitators engaged during the project.
The CYFI project was sponsored by the US Consulate General, Leap Africa, MacArthur Foundation, and NYFF.
The Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative is a platform that provides opportunities for young individuals to develop as leaders and contribute to their communities. Through various projects and initiatives, CYFI aims to empower the youth and create positive, lasting change.
