The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Tuesday, said that it was ready for the September 5, 2023, local government elections in the state.
To that extent, the party announced that it would inaugurate its campaign council on Wednesday, to be headed by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The State Chairman of the party, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, who disclosed these at the new secretariat of the party located on Airport Road, Benin City, said that the party, contrary to the views of the opposition parties, had put all machinery in place to record victory at the coming elections.
Aziegnemi dismissed the apprehension by the opposition parties that PDP being the party in power, would write the election results, adding that the PDP, under Obaseki, was not used to doing such.
He assured that the election would be free, fair, and credible because the party was ready for the election, given the state of the party secretariat.
The Edo PDP Chairman, however, advised the opposition parties to stop crying wolf where there was none, noting that what made the PDP different from other parties “is that it has developed a culture where the governor leads in all the campaigns by meeting aspirants before the election to appraise their readiness and capability.”
On the rift between Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, the Edo PDP Chairman, said elders of the party were not sleeping over it.
According to him, “Even identical twins do not behave alike. So as a party, we will control the misunderstood. This I can assure you, and it is going to be a thing of the past.”
