Edo: Man denies attack on plaza in Benin

An Abuja-based entrepreneur, Mr. Friday Osamudiamen Roney, has debunked allegations that he orchestrated an attack on the premises of Akpes Mega Plaza located on Oni Street in Benin City, Edo State.

Roney said he was surprised by such weighty allegations, especially since he resides in Abuja and has not been to Benin City in the past two years.

The entrepreneur, who maintained his innocence, stated this in a petition he addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He urged the IGP to swiftly investigate the allegations.

He also decried the alleged falsehood, criminal defamation, threats to life, cyberstalking, and harassment made against him, allegedly by one Kapuapua.

In the petition dated April 17, 2025, and filed through his lawyer, Barbara B. Salihu, Roney said, “Kapuapua, in a video, stated erroneously that our client attacked one premises named Akpes Mega Plaza at Oni Street in Benin City.”

Roney noted, “The only contact I have had with Akpes was a business transaction in 2019, which is now being investigated by the FID, Abuja.

“Investigation is ongoing… so why would I resort to self-help if I have already reported the matter?”

Continuing, the entrepreneur explained that he woke up to several messages from acquaintances on April 17, 2025, showing the said Kapuapua in a video making unfounded allegations against him via a TikTok handle @nominddem.

The petitioner claimed that the said Kapuapua resorted to cyberbullying and criminal defamation, including calling on the Edo State governor to prosecute him over the shooting and labeling him an assassin.

“These recent occurrences of deliberately orchestrated falsehoods prove that there exists a criminal conspiracy against me,” he stated.

On his part, Kapuapua defended his TikTok video, alleging that the petitioner had made a threat.
