Former Minister of Sports and Special Duties and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Screening Committee for Edo State, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, has assured the Party’s National Working Committee that his team would be fair to all twelve aspirants who picked the Party Nomination Forms.
Professor Adedoja gave the pledge on Thursday in his acceptance speech shortly after his seven-man team was inaugurated. The team has Senator Sani Danjuma as Secretary.
The former minister said the rules would strictly guide his screening team. He said, “We want to thank the NWC for deeming it fit to invite us to serve on this committee. We will be guided primarily by three documents: the Nigerian Constitution, the APC Constitution, and guidelines handed out to aspirants.
We will be fair in the process of screening these aspirants. Like I said, the more we do our work very well, the fewer the litigations.
Our work isn’t to disqualify any aspirant but to give them the opportunity to clear themselves. That’s why the appeal committee is also there for fairness and to promote justice.” National Organizing Secretary of the party, Sulaiman Argungu, who performed the inauguration of both the Screening and Appeal Committees, admonished them to live up to the expectations of the party’s national leadership.
“Your Excellencies, Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, as you are all aware, the screening of our great Party’s aspirants for all elections is a requirement of the constitution of our great Party.
In the same vein, our Party’s Constitution also gives weight to equity and restoration of rights, which is why it provides for a Screening Appeal Committee that avails aggrieved aspirants who might have been screened out at the level of the Screening Committee to seek appellate intervention from the Screening Appeal Committee.
Therefore, as I welcome you to this very important occasion, let me use this opportunity to assure the rank and file of members of our great Party in Edo State and across the country that the National Chairman, in concert with the entire members of the National Working Committee, has ensured that the leadership and members nominated into these two Committees are individuals of principles and worthy values with political pedigrees that can be showcased with confidence anywhere and at any time.

In short, Your Excellencies, Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, what I am saying, in other words, is that as a body of progressive-minded people, we are proud of you as a cohort of responsible and committed Party members and, I must state that I have the go-ahead of the National Chairman to, on behalf of the Party, thank you and express our gratitude to you for accepting to serve your Party in this screening and screening appeal assignments. We are indeed thankful to you all.
As you proceed to engage with the task for which you have been nominated, please be assured that we have made sure that the exercise will be hitch-free and seamless with the presence of a Secretariat Support Team that will be personally led by myself.
Nigerian Tribune checks revealed that the Professor Adedoja Screening Committee has since commenced its assignment as some of the aspirants were screened and cleared on Thursday ahead of the primaries.
