Blessing Agbomhere, the South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Blessing Agbomhere, has issued a public apology to the Nigerian Police for wearing a supernumerary (SPY) police uniform at a political rally.
Agbomhere’s action, which occurred during a political event where he heavily criticized Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, led to police intervention and a directive for his arrest.
In a statement addressing the incident, the Nigerian Police expressed concern over Agbomhere’s use of his official SPY uniform in a political context. Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi remarked, “The police frown at the wearing of his official SPY uniform while engaging in political activities. The individual has been arrested for further investigation.”
In response, Agbomhere apologised, explaining that he wore the uniform in a moment of heightened emotion fueled by his frustration with Governor Obaseki’s alleged misgovernance. He emphasized that his actions were not meant to embarrass the police force, and he deeply regrets any unintended offense.
“Whilst the alleged embarrassment is unintended and deeply regretted, I posit that the views expressed in the media interview were not that of the Nigeria Police Force but my personal opinion justified within the context of my constitutionally guaranteed right of freedom of speech and association,” Agbomhere clarified in his statement.
He further described himself as a patriotic Nigerian, devoted to nation-building through his various roles in professional and civic organizations, including the Supernumerary Police Division.
Furthermore, Agbomhere said despite apologising for the uniform incident, he did not hold back on his critique of Governor Obaseki’s administration. Rather call out Obaseki and Asue Ighodalo, the Chairman of the Edo State Economic Team, of mismanaging public funds and neglecting the welfare of the state’s people. According to Agbomhere, the current government is characterized by corruption and incompetence.
“I will continue to stand against the massive corruption and incompetence of the Edo State government under Godwin Obaseki as governor and Asue Ighodalo as chairman of the Edo State Economic Team,” Agbomhere declared, reinforcing his stance against the ruling administration.
Also, Agbomhere reiterated his support for Monday Okpebholo, the APC gubernatorial candidate, whom he described as the only person capable of delivering good governance to the people of Edo. He urged voters to reject the incumbent administration and place their trust in Okpebholo for a better future for the state.
He also described himself as a citizen deeply committed to the nation’s growth and stability. He pointed out that his involvement in numerous organizations, including the police SPY division, is a reflection of his dedication to promoting national security and social welfare.
“I have committed my life to the activities of nation-building by helping Nigerians and Nigeria,” Agbomhere said, adding that his goal is to contribute to peace and progress in the country.
