Prof. Anthony Okorie-Ani, the Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial District, coasted to victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary, clinching the party’s ticket for the 2027 general elections with a landslide 42,868 votes.

The direct primary election, monitored across the five local government areas making up the district, witnessed a massive turnout of party members who participated in the exercise.

The senatorial district comprises Afikpo, Edda, Ivo, Ohaozara and Onicha LGAs.

Results collated from the various wards and local government areas indicated overwhelming support for the incumbent lawmaker, as party officials described the outcome as decisive and reflective of the confidence reposed in him by party faithful.

The exercise was conducted peacefully across the district, with stakeholders applauding the orderly and transparent process.

Declaring the result at the Afikpo Council Headquarters, Chairman of the APC Primary Committee for the zone and former Senator, Julius Ucha, formally announced Okorie-Ani as the winner of the primary.

“The results were collated from the wards in the local government areas through the zonal primary committee.

“By the authority conferred on me as Chairman of the committee, I hereby announce Sen. Anthony Okorie-Ani as the winner of the APC ticket for Ebonyi South Senatorial District for the 2027 general elections,” Ucha declared.

Reacting to the exercise, Chairman of Onicha LGA, Mr Ikechukwu Ogbofia, commended the peaceful conduct of the primary and congratulated the senator on his victory.

“I thank God the election was orderly and peaceful. I congratulate him and members of the party,” Ogbofia said.

Also, the Ivo Council Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Ajah, urged the senator to put in more effort as he emerged again as the APC candidate for the forthcoming general election.

“Ivo is totally APC. We don’t have any other party in Ivo. At least, who is talking about any other party in Ivo? Nobody.

“The turnout was very impressive. In every ward, the turnout was very fine. And in Ivo, we don’t have issues.

“He won the primaries today because everybody supported him, courtesy of our governor. But without our governor, nobody would support him. So, he must put in more effort to recognise stakeholders, our people, and do well.

“Because once your brother is doing well, you are doing well. So, we don’t have issues. Come 2027, we are ready to support him 100%.”
