Ebonyi State Government has called on youths to shun social vices, engage in skills, utilise every opportunity before them in digitalization for a better living.
Wife of the Governor Chief Mrs Mary-Maudaline Nwifuru, gave the charge during the kick-off the State-sponsored free training of 5000 youths on digital skills.
The training anchored by “GetBundi ” is part of the State Digital Skill Youth Development program in collaboration with the office of the First Lady and Sustainable Development Goals SDGs Ebonyi State.
Addressing the participants at Station Urban Primary School Abakaliki one of the centres for the training, Mrs Nwifuru encouraged the participants to make good use of the free training opportunity for self-advancement.
This initiative is important in our journey towards digitalization, youth development and empowerment. In today’s world digital skills are no longer a luxury but a necessity. The rapid advancement in technology has changed the way we live, work, trade and interact with one another.
“To remain competitive and relevant in the society, you must have these digital skills. With these skills, the youths will be well employed even when they are still in the University. The era of waiting endlessly for non-exciting white-collar jobs after graduation will be ended. They will not go through the hurdles of unemployment in Nigeria. You can gain a lot from the digital world. I learnt that Facebook’s owner is the richest in the world irrespective of his age.
“Can you imagine the iPhone producers said we are using only five per cent of the features of the phone? It is time to make good use of every opportunity before us in digitalization. I commend the SDG Focal Person Engr Mrs Esther Nwogha, our partners GetBundi and the BERWO foundation for their efforts in equipping our youths with digital skills.”
“Together we are creating a brighter future for our people. The skills you acquire here will empower you to be the architect of your own destiny. My foundation BERWO will continue to support the youths of Ebonyi State to attain greater heights.
“On behalf of my Darling husband the Governor of Ebonyi State His Excellency Rt Hon Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru I sincerely reaffirm our administration’s commitment to the development and empowerment of the people. The Ebonyi State sponsored Digital development program is just one of the many initiatives we undertake to ensure that our state remains at the forefront of progress and prosperity .”
Also, the Focal Person Ebonyi Sustainable Development Goals SDGs Engr Mrs Esther Nwogha noted that the online training slated to last for four months is expected to cover four core areas which include Digital marketing, cyber security, video editing and graphic design.
She assured the participants that the skills when learnt in detail will change their narratives for the better as well as the state in general.
Mr Osita Okparaugo the leader of the partnering group GetBundi noted that Ebonyi and Abia states are the pilot states for the digitalization process in South Eastern Nigeria and expressed optimism that in ten years’ time, the world must have been fully digitalised.
