Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, has expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for Nigeria, urging Nigerians to maintain faith in the president’s administration.
Governor Nwifuru made the call on Sunday during the Thanksgiving Holy Mass held at the Government House, Abakaliki, as part of activities marking the 2024 Independence Anniversary.
According to him, the removal of the fuel subsidy by the Tinubu-led government is a well-thought-out policy that deserves commendation from all.
He emphasized that, prior to the end of the subsidy regime, marketers had held the country to ransom, dictating economic conditions to the detriment of the vast majority.
“Many don’t realize it is actually in the interest of Mr. President to choose who will be importing fuel if the subsidy is not removed. Mr. President is the one suffering the most from the fuel subsidy,” he said.
“If Mr. President had allowed these marketers to continue what they were doing, this country would not have reached its current level of infrastructural development. This decision made by Mr. President is timely.”
The Governor expressed optimism that the hardship resulting from the subsidy removal is temporary.
“Believe me, in less than six months, fuel will be cheaper than what we have now.”
He reiterated his commitment to running an inclusive government in the state to mitigate the temporary effects of subsidy removal.
“My wish is to ensure that everyone is comfortable because we are all equal before God Almighty.”
The Governor also praised the state’s founding fathers for their contributions, which led to the creation of Ebonyi State 28 years ago, and announced plans to honor them on October 1.
He solicited the support and prayers of the people in the task of governing the state.
“Nobody is perfect. As leaders, we need your prayers at all times. It is better to pray for leaders to translate their visions into reality instead of gossiping about them because no one is perfect.”
