A 35-year-old man, Jubril Ibrahim, who allegedly stole 1,138 litres of diesel valued at N241,156 was on Monday docked at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, a driver on transit, who resides in Kaduna State, is being tried for stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu told the court that the offence was committed on May 23 at No. 24, Abubakar St., Katangowa area, Abule Egba road, a suburb of Lagos.
Ogu said that the accused loaded 48,000 litres of diesel from Ama Zuma Service Ltd. at the above address and was asked to deliver it to one of the company’s customers in Kaduna.
“In Kaduna, a shortage of 1,138 litres of diesel valued at N241, 156 was discovered by the company the accused was to deliver it to.
“The accused was asked and he could not account for it. Hence, his company was contacted to know the situation of things and he was sent back to Lagos,’’ he said.
Ogu added that the accused was arrested when he arrived Lagos.
The offence contravened Section 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A Adegun, granted the accused a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adegun adjourned the case until June 25 for the mention.
