The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), on Thursday, said that the nation lost some of its soldiers in the renewed efforts to end insurgency activities across the country in the last two weeks.
Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Brigadier General Benard Onyeuko, disclosed this in Abuja while speaking with Defence Correspondents on the successes of the troops and other security forces at various theatres in the six geo-political zones of the country between July 2 to 15, this year.
The DDMO, however, declared that the death of the soldiers would not be in vain, as it has brought about relative calm in most of the theatres within the same period.
He further added that some of the troops also survived with diverse degrees of injuries, and were receiving adequate medical care across the country.
He assured the members of the public not to be panic as the Armed Forces of Nigeria were battle-ready to end all forms of criminal activities and banditry in all troubled areas in the country and restore permanent peace for citizens to pursue their daily activities in a peaceful environment.
According to him, “you are aware of our operational activities in the various geo-political zones of the country. Therefore, it is imperative to update you and the general public on the efforts and operational activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies tackling insecurity in our dear country.
“Thus, the update today is a cumulative and summarized presentation of the activities of the Armed Forces in all its operations across the Country between 2 and 15 July 2021. These operations involved both kinetic and non-kinetic engagements in different locations within the various theatres, which yielded substantive results.
“While the security situation in some locations remained peaceful and calm, some other areas recorded some incidents within the period.
“Gentlemen of the press, gleaning from the updates from the various theatres of operations as I have highlighted, there is no gainsaying there is a relative reduction in the spate of incidents in the various theatres of operations.
“However, in the course of these operations, some of our troops paid the supreme price and some others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies will continue to forestall the activities of the enemies of our dear country. Thus we have intensified our aggressive posture to reduce the activities of criminal elements
“We have also intensified intelligence surveillance reconnaissance operations in all theatres of operations and main criminals’ logistics supply routes to frustrate movement of arms and ammunition as well as other unlawful items to criminal elements using various NAF platforms.
“The NAF (Nigerian Air Force) also dominated the airspace within all theatres and provided close air support for ground troops during their operations.
“The Military High Command lauds the efforts of the troops for their resilience and unrelenting commitment and further encourages the general public to support our efforts by providing credible and timely information that will facilitate our proactive engagements.”
