Delta State Government has received its share of 85,700 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from the Federal Government.
The state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, is expected to get the first jap of the vaccine followed by other strategic political leaders in the state at the flag-off of the vaccination process in Asaba, March 12.
Speaking to journalists in Asaba, on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr Mordi Ononye, stated that the vaccines could be accessed across the 64 state hospitals and some selected primary healthcare centres even as
personnel have been trained specifically for the administration of the vaccines.
He said frontline healthcare service providers would be given priority in administering the vaccines.
Ononye urged residents to disregard the misconceptions about the vaccines and enjoined them to take advantage of the arrival of the Astra Zeneca Vaccines to boost their immunity against COVID-19.
According to him, the use of the vaccines would enhance immunity and reduce the chance of getting infected, noting that the vaccine is free and safe.
On preservation, he said: “We have put in place a robust plan to preserve these vaccines, so the issue of preservation is not a challenge. Delta State over the years has developed proper storage facilities.”
