Members of the All Progressive Party (APC) in Ika federal constituency of Delta State have expressed their grievances at the way the crisis bedevilling the party in the state was resolved in favour of only one leader out of about eleven formidable others.
This, they said, has translated to the minority population in the party in the state claiming ownership of the party and being recognised by the national organs of the party.
In a five-point communiqué at the end of their meeting in Boji Boji Owa in Ika northeast and signed by Delta north senatorial chairman of the party, Barrister Ifeanyi William Agholor, Hon Dada Ulebor, Hon.Agbeh David, Hon Akpenyi Victor and thirteen others, the members gave the national leadership of the party seven days to harmonise the party structure from state to ward levels in the state among all the members of the College of Leaders of the party in the state and the Deputy Senate President, Barrister Ovie Omo Agege.
According to the communiqué, should the National leadership of the party fails to heed to their demand, the APC College of Leaders in the State should within another seven days find an alternative platform for the teeming members to express themselves politically.
The members said they made the resolutions with the utmost sense of responsibility, believing the same to be in the overriding interest of the party, if winning elections in future is of any consideration. Earlier the members at the enlarged meeting gave a 7 day ultimatum to the Deputy Senate president, Ovie Omo Agege to return all the wards he allegedly hijacked during the last congresses.
As a way of expressing their anger, the APC faithful pulled down the party’s flag, threatening that the ship of the party in the area would wreck if a thorough reconciliation of the executives is not carried out.
Addressing the meeting , the Delta north senatorial chairman of the party, Barrister Ifeanyi William Agholor appealed to the APC loyalists to however remain calm and resolute as nobody can be manipulated or election rigged any more under the new electoral act.
According to him, the state could not afford to miss out and allow PDP to take over the state again because of the attitude of the Senate president in handling the affairs of the party in the state.
He said two critical issues are on the ground for the Senator Abdullahi led national executive to address in the state .
“Two issues are on ground here, one DSP Omo Agege single handedly hijacked all the structures in the state from ward to national level.
” Alot of persons want to run for the election and if the structure is with Omo Agege , can you defeat him, whoever he likes he will give it and politics is not played like that. Politic is a game of number , the people you see here are no borrowed”
Also speaking, the chairmen of the party in Ika north east and Ika south Mr Sunny Onyejose and Ehima Williams Eluma respectively regretted the maltreatment they are getting from the leaders.
” We all fought for the party from the beginning but today, the house we all built, they are pushing us out.
“We have people who want to contest election on 2023, but there is no room for them to do so again.”
Most people who spoke at the meeting accused the Deputy Senate president of using the fortune of the party to favor people from Delta central to the detriment of others, especially from Delta north.
