COVID-19: Ooni of Ife donates 2 modular fumigators to Ebonyi govt

Following the increase of coronavirus cases in Ebonyi State, the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, at the weekend in Abakaliki, donated two modular fumigators to Ebonyi State government to assist them in curbing the spread of the pandemic in the state.

Presenting the items to the Ebonyi State government, the Ooni, represented by Oba Awosole Ade Tokumbo, noted that he made the donations to assist governments to carry out its duties without hindrance.

According to him, the locally made machines would help the country fumigate it environs as other countries do.

He said, “We are here to donate fumigating machines towards fighting of COVID-19 pandemic. We have been going to other states and have four more states to cover.

“The imperial majesty has asked us to deliver these machines for your use so as to combat the pandemic.”

Receiving the items, Governor David Umahi represented by the chairman, Welfare and Fundraising Covid-19 and Speaker State House of Assembly, Francis Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, commended Ooni for his love for Ebonyi State.

Nwifuru then used the medium to debunk the rumour that the Federal Government donated funds to Government of Ebonyi State in the fight against coronavirus.

“Some people are saying that the Federal Government gave us money. I want to make it very clear because I am the chairman welfare and fundraising, and if there is any fund from anywhere I will be the first to know because I am the sole signatory to that account. So there is nothing that happens without my knowledge.

“The treatment centre our governor built was because we have been fighting Lassa fever and we find it very difficult to get to Royal Hospital in Edo State. That is the essence of building a virology centre after which we decided to equip it and handover to the Federal Government.

“Unfortunately, the Federal Government could not handle it and we decided to take it back and presently using it as our treatment centre,” he said.

The Ooni was accompanied by the princess of Egba land, Fadekemi Fadojutimi and other members of COVID-19  taskforce team from the Ooni’s palace.
