Court remands 3 men for alleged killing

A Magistrate Court in Ilorin has ordered that three men, Aminu Ibrahim, Abubakar Saadu and Oche Ella, be remanded in Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, for allegedly killing one Rasheedat Jimoh.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr A. M. Ibrahim gave the order on Wednesday in Ilorin and adjourned the case until Dec. 17, for further mention.

The accused persons are facing a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and culpable homicide.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Nasir Yusuf told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 7, 2017, at about 10 pm at no. 2, Jimoh Bollanta Street, Kulende area, Ilorin when they robbed the victim.

Yusuf said that one of the suspects shot and killed Mrs Jimoh and dispossessed her of an unspecified amount of money as well as some quantity of GSM recharge cards.

He said that discreet investigation carried out by the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team, Police force Headquarters, Abuja, led to the arrest of the first accused.

The prosecutor said that one Barretta Pistol with breach number 75C29175 and 19 rounds of 5.5 mm live ammunition were recovered from him.

He said that he confessed to carrying out the robbery, the killing of the victim and dispossessing her of an unspecified amount of money and some quantity of GSM recharge cards.

Yusuf said that further investigation led to the arrest of the second accused person who allegedly purchased the said illegal pistol used for the operation from the third accused.

The prosecutor said the third accused lived in David Mark extension, Agbeyi village, Markudi, Benue capital.

Yusuf said that the pistol was given to the first accused for the said armed robbery operation, of which the second and third accused had knowledge of which resulted in the death of the victim.

He said that during police interrogation, the second and third accused persons also confessed to their respective involvement in the crime.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 6b 1(2) and 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms Act CAP R11 Law of the Federation, 2004, and Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

The three accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offence.
