Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege (Delta Central) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a passionate appeal to Senator Mathew Urhoghide (Edo South) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to return to the ruling party.
Omo Agege, a former Secretary to the Delta State Government during ex-Governor James Ibori’s administration, who spoke at a church service in Benin yesterday as part of activities to mark Urhoghide, Chairman of Senate Committee on Appropriation 66th birthday anniversary recalled with fond memories their days as young and upcoming undergraduate students of University of Benin (UNIBEN).
He said that while Urhoghide took a degree in pharmacy, he (Omo Agege) graduated from the Faculty of Law, adding that both men were founding members of the APC before the Edo senator who he described as his bosom friend defected to the PDP.
The deputy senate president said: “My friend Mathew, come back to the APC. That is where you belong and not the PDP. I’ll do everything to bring you back home to the APC. That’s your home.”
On his part, Governor Godwin Obaseki eulogized Urhoghide, noting that he played in ensuring his smooth entrance into the PDP cannot be quantified.
Governor Obaseki who spoke at the reception ceremony for Urhoghide said that the lawmaker abandoned his ambition to contest for the Edo State governorship election on September 19, 2020, and worked assiduously for his emergence as governor.
He said: “That I am in PDP today, is based on his efforts. One night, he (Urhoghide) came to me and said because of you, I will not contest for the position of the governor of this state though people have been asking me to contest but I will not but I will work for you.”
