Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has compensated all governorship candidates who stepped down for him in 2019, a former member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Kamil Akinlabi, has said.
Akinlabi spoke on Friday during the maiden edition of a monthly programme of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) tagged ‘Frank Talk Platform’.
Candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Chief Olufemi Lanlehin; Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Chief Sharafadeen Alli, and Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Bolaji Ayorinde, jettisoned their ambitions to support Makinde in the last general election.
The coalition was facilitated by a former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, a few days before the governorship election.
But the candidates, particularly Lanlehin and Alli, have accused the governor of abandoning them.
They alleged that the governor was not working in line with the coalitions agreement.
The duo specifically accused Makinde of sidelining them.
However, Akinlabi claimed that all the candidates who stepped down for the governor had been duly compensated.
He noted that contrary to Lanlehin and Allis claims, all the candidates had been compensated one way or the other.
Akinlabi, who is the chairman of the Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSRMA), insisted that contrary to insinuations, Governor Makinde did not jettison the coalitions agreement.
He explained that the candidates and the parties that were part of the coalition had been compensated.
Akinlabi said: Every gubernatorial candidate that stepped down for Makinde has been compensated one way or the other.
“You should know that they are happy, I may not be able to tell you the way they have been compensated. I cannot tell you in specific terms but they have been compensated.
“Makinde never jettisoned the coalition agreement. There cannot be two masters in a ship.
“He has given appointments to those in ADC, Zenith Labour Party and SDP. I am also part of the coalition, I am an ADP member. ADP has been compensated.”
