Anambra State, on Thursday, recorded partial compliance with the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), over President Mohammadu Buhari’s visit to Imo State.
The order was made known in a broadcast by IPOB-HDOS, Mazi Chika Edoziem, to discourage or threaten the President from coming.
IPOB declared that Nigeria’s President is not “welcomed into Imo State, Biafra Land”.
The group urged “all the traditional rulers, all ndi ichie and every Biafran should stay away from any ceremony organised by Hope Uzodimma to welcome him.”
But Tribune Online gathered that there were vehicular movements, though not heavy, on the roads and streets of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi, at about 11:41 a.m.
Also, some popular shopping malls, markets and other business centres were partially opened to business activities.
Many parts of the market, banks, and filling stations were, however, closed down while others opened.
Commercial vehicles, Keke and shuttle buses were also sighted, conveying people from one place to another.
A businessman cum politician, Mr Edmond Nnedum, who spoke to our correspondent on the development, said the order did not deprive anybody of going out to his/her businesses including students who are currently writing the National Examination Council (NECO) exams.
The trade said if anybody stayed at home today in Anambra State, “it is a personal decision because the President’s visit took place in Owerri, Imo State and not in Anambra.”
“Now, the president has come to South-East, precisely, Imo State, and commission some projects of Hope Uzodinma. Did Heaven fall down? I think the devil is using some poor people to distract the progress of others in the region.
“I enjoin Buhari, now that he has seen the situation of things and the poor turn out that welcome him in Imo State, he should know that the country needs to be restructured. And by doing so, all the agitations for self-actualisation championed by IPOB and Oduduwa Nation will come to an end,” Mr Nnedum submitted.
