The President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), and visitor to Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, Rev. Dr Israel Akanji have declared that Bowen University was established primarily to add value to tertiary quality education development in Nigeria.
The president made the remark recently at the 19th convocation of the institution, held recently.
According to him, the periodical updating and upgrading of the institution’s teaching, research facilities, and human development culminating in the signing of a series of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with renewed foreign institutions of learning was meant to produce skilful God-fearing inclined university graduates the society would need for its transformation
He expressed assurance that Bowen graduates are commissioned to practically become agents of interrupting interruptions for a better society.
He said there is need to emphasise discontinuity in life, noting that central purpose of education is to bring about a change in behaviour and education would be meaningless if everything is to continue the way it has always been.
Therefore, he noted that interruption must be a welcomed attitude for life to be truly meaningful, and if interruption is found useful, then the interrupter must also be found not only useful, but needful and appreciable.
In his speech he declared that many things must continue, but we must watch out to see where discontinuity is a necessity and find courage from God to become interrupters of evil in our society, stressing that Baptist Convention’s involvement in education is centralized in the production of reliable graduates in fields that would influence positive change in the their world.
The chancellor of the institution, REV Yusuf Gwadah expressed satisfaction with the outstanding performances of Bowen University undergraduates and graduates in their fields across the globe.
He commended the new vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Jonathan and his team for upgrading the academic progress of the institution.
According him, Bowen University is not only committed to academic excellence, but also to fostering strong values rooted in faith, integrity, and character, stressing that the students are trained to be leaders with moral courage, guided by the values of Godliness, excellence, and leadership.
The PRO- Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the institution, Deaconess Joan Ayo, while describing Bowen university as eco-friendly among other high-rated ivory tower across the globe, asserted that the notable overwhelmed academic and physical development experiences in the university was a testament to the team work of erudite leadership of the institution over time since inception.
She asserted that the principal officers of the institution and all the faculty members of the university, under the leadership of the incumbent vice Chancellor, Professor Jonathan Babalola are dedicated to hard work, and committing themselves to the lives entrusted to them; moulding the young lives, of character and learning; equipping them with skills and knowledge in readiness to take their rightful positions in various fields of human endeavour.
The vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Jonathan Babalola affirmed that Bowen University has a strong foundation of Christian values, discipline, and academic rigour based on excellence and godliness He added that the management often restrategised to improve the curriculum to meet and exceed the minimum requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC) in teaching, research, and community development.
He said, “This in addition to our core values, excellence, godliness, social responsibilities, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills will be strongly upheld.”
He noted that Bowen University’s track record in academic excellence and character development made it an ideal partner. Under the MOU, both institutions were committed to mutual undertakings and prayer for growth, student exchange programs, ICT system establishment, virtual learning opportunities, faculty training, equipment donations, and support in organizing specific academic programs at WRTBU
According to him, Aderinola Ogunleye, a 500-level Mechatronic Engineering student, won a $3,300 grant to attend the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2024 in Yokohama, Japan. Seven Architecture students excelled at the OASIS 7.0 (Osun Architects Sustainable Information Synthesis), securing the first, second, and third prizes, with their winning entry showcased globally at the International Union of Architects (UIA) World Congress of Architects in Copenhagen, Denmark.
