The Association of Water Well Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners and Borehole Drilling Association of Nigeria, (BORDAN) has faulted the position of their national body on the issue of N30,000 operation permit for operators in Oyo State.
The National President of the Association, Michael Ale, was quoted to have appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to reduce the operation permit cost, noting its effects on the members.
However, the state chairman of the Association and a consultant, Mr Kolawole Olayiwola and Adeyinka Ajayi, disclosed that the introduction of the operation permit predated the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde in Oyo state.
The duo in a chat with the newsmen stated that N30,000 operation permit was the outcome of a tripartite meeting among the stakeholders in 2018.
The amount, according to them was contained in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by all the parties in attendance at the meeting including Mr Ale.
The drillers. therefore, expressed surprise that its national president who was part of the meeting that approved the payment of N30,000 operation now make a u-turn by shifting the blame on Makinde who has not assumed office as the governor of the state.
They added that it was agreed at the meeting in 2018 that each borehole drilling company operating in the state must register with N75,000 and N50,000 yearly renewal fees.
The records are there for members of the public to see. If our national president has a personal issue to settle with the state government, he should go ahead and settle it but he should not drag AWDROP into it.
