TWO soldiers have been killed in a commando-style attack on a military target in Mainok, Kaga local government area of Borno State.
In the attack, about eleven of the terrorists were taken out by the gallant soldiers who fought back to restore their grip on the base.
Military sources said that several houses were burnt down by the daring insurgents who passed through the town like a hurricane living two others wounded in the fracas.
Commissioner of Police Demien Chukwu while updating newsmen Thursday in his office confirmed the attack on the town which he said occurred at about 18.30pm yesterday when the Muslim was about praying.
He said that the Boko Haram terrorists invaded the town but were properly repelled by the soldiers who were later backed up by SAS and the counter-terrorism squad to chase the hoodlums out of town.
He confirmed that two other civilians were injured and have been responding to medical treatments.
Mainock is a major village along what could be described as the safest highway in Borno connecting Maiduguri, Damaturu and the rest of the north east of Nigeria as such it was easy for the insurgents to disappear with two operational vehicles of the military in the process.
Chukwu told the Newsmen that the road is now opened for motorists held up for the whole night in Damaturu not sure of their safety to traverse down to Maiduguri.
Mainok was last attacked in 2014 but has since recovered from the torments of Boko Haram till yesterday.
