The Berom Youth Moulder Association (BYM) has condemned an incident where one person was killed and another injured in an attack by hoodlums when some traders were returning from the Kara cattle market in Jos South local government area of Plateau State.
According to a statement signed by the BYM National Publicity Secretary, Mr Rwang Tengwong, the unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday around Heipang District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
It pointed out that as a result of the attack, one Umar Idris was killed, while the other victim is said to have sustained a gunshot injury and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Barkin Ladi.
“This unprovoked act of criminality is totally condemnable, particularly at a time when we have put behind us incidents of the past to work with the government to ensure lasting peace in our communities.”
The statement further mentioned that the people of the community where the incident occurred immediately organised their vigilante group, which went to the spot where the shooting took place, adding that the hoodlums escaped through the Potato Value Chain Market recently built by the immediate past administration in Plateau State.
It added that at the meeting with the sector commander of the OPSH alongside the youths and other stakeholders, the community expressed its commitment to support security personnel in their investigation to identify the perpetrators, regardless of who they are.
