The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Benue State chapter, held its state congress at the weekend in Makurdi, the capital of the state.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Samson Okwu, emerged as the state chairman of the African Democratic Congress.
The party also affirmed executives from the polling unit level up to the state structure.
Chairman of the Congress Committee, Hon. Shola Ojoh, described the exercise as peaceful and well-coordinated, noting that the consensus approach ensured a hitch-free process without disputes. He expressed confidence in the party’s chances ahead of future elections.
Delegates from all 23 local government areas and aspirants for various political positions attended the state congress.
The Congress Screening Committee, led by Barr. Jacob Ogwuche, and the Appeal Committee, chaired by Hon. Nelson Ogbu, as well as security operatives, were deployed to beef up security.
Senator Orker-Jev urged party members to remain united and disciplined, stressing that the party was entering a renewed phase of growth.
In his acceptance remarks, Samson Okwu thanked stakeholders for the confidence reposed in the new executives, pledging to uphold the party’s ideals and strengthen its structure across the state.
Meanwhile, there was no representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission present to supervise the state congress.
The INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, had earlier submitted that INEC would not recognise the David Mark-led executives following the decision of the Court of Appeal ruling.
