Life of an independent artist is not always paved with gold. Making music without a strong support system like a record label has made many budding music artists quit the game. But for US-based prolific singer, rapper and songwriter, Edet Otudor Otudor Ene a.k.a O2udor quitting is not an option as he is set to take his destiny in his own hands and move on.
“Life as an independent artist is tough, there are a number of ups and downs to say the least,” he admits.
“ Being independent implies, I wear many hats, I have to find the inspiration to create decent content for my audience, promote & market this content without an experienced team to guide me on this path and handle the business side of the music. However, this is not a limitation, it is an overall tedious process but it has taught me to be organized, disciplined and invested in my craft. Being independent has made me understand that taking my music career to the next level requires hard work, patience and dedication, so it has shaped my views of music such that I am more realistic in my expectations and know that I must put in the work to achieve my goals as a music artist,” he asserts.
O2udor is born to a Nigerian mother and Cameroonian father. He is blessed with the rich culture & heritage of his two nations; Cameroon and Nigeria. He is very versatile on account of the influences of the genres of Afrobeats & Makossa from Nigerian and Cameroon respectively, which he grew up listening to.
His ability to tap into these genres, blend the original sounds of these nations, and the fact that he is bilingual (speaks both French & English languages), in addition to the opportunity that he had experienced life on both soils, and his ability to tell his story and speak on the plight of the voiceless citizens of these nations through his music makes him different from other artist, based in the Diaspora.
The extremely versatile artist has a number of critically acclaimed singles such as; Best Friend, Better, My Girl & Scared of Change just to name a few. He has also managed to grace the biggest stages in Washington D.C. & Maryland such as The Anthem, The Fillmore, the Howard theatre etc as an opening act for some of the biggest names in international music including but not limited to; Maître Gims, Davido, Burna Boy and Fally Ipupa.
O2udor started his professional music career in 2014. His debut studio album in collaboration with OMG Entertainment was released on November 20, 2021. The album was titled CMDGF [Closed Mouths Don’t Get Fed] and it consist of 16 tracks and 5 featured artists.
