THE Zamfara State taskforce committee on the activities of banditry has arrested over 1,000 suspects with 200 jerry cans of petrol in their possession across the state.
Also, the committee further disclosed that only 30 petrol filling stations were allowed to operate at different locations across the local government areas in the state.
Speaking in an interview on Saturday in Gusau, the taskforce committee chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Dauran, said those arrested were arraigned before a mobile court set up in the state. According to him, those arrested with drugs and other prohibited items were handed over to security agencies for more investigation.
“The committee has arrested over one thousand suspects, some of them were arrested with petrol jerry cans, drugs, unauthorised motorcycles and transportation of soft drinks, contrary to the mandate of the Taskforce,” he said.
He said the committee has further discovered a hotel where underage girls and married women were lured into social vices in the state.
“We directed the immediate closure of the hotel situated within Gusau, the state capital,” he said.
Dauran maintained that any unregistered hotel and those registered but were not complying with the state laws would be closed down in the state.
