A group, Recover Nigeria Project, has threatened to block the Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano and other top politicians in the state from plying the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway if nothing is done urgently to repair the bad spot of the road in Awka that has claimed several lives.
The coordinator of the group, Obi Ositadinma stated this at a press briefing in Awka, the Anambra State capital, on Wednesday.
He said the portion of the road that had deteriorated so badly was close to Anambra government House.
He said other notable politicians in the state use the road without proffering solution to its bad state that had become what he called “a deathtrap, sending people to their early graves”.
He said: “It will not take more than fifty trips of sand and cement to patch the portion of the road which has claimed many lives and rendered others permanently disabled.

“It is crass and irresponsible to allow the road to continue to be in very bad shape on the ground that the road belongs to the federal government.
“Members of Recover Nigeria Project can no longer fold their hands while lives are wantonly lost on the dual carriageway and as such we have decided to totally block the road until the government is ready to patch the bad portion.
“This bad spot is very close to Anambra State government house, it is also close to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, other federal offices are located in this area.
“Our so-called big men pretend they are blind whenever they get to the bad place. This, to us in Recover Nigeria Project, is irresponsibility and an indication that there is no one who is interested in the plights of the people of the state.”
He expressed optimism that by the time his group was through with the action to block the expressway, the issue of the bad spot would be brought to the front burner and get the urgent attention it deserves.
