Awosika charges Kings University to embark on economic development based researches

Former chairman, First Bank of Nigeria, Mrs Ibukun Awosika on Friday remarked that there are many vital roles that universities can play in the development of the economy of a Nation.
Awosika, who was a guest speaker at the king’s university 2nd and 3rd convocation ceremony held at the university campus in Ode-Omu, said in her keynote address that, the primary role starts from the development of human capital saying, if human capital is well developed, every individual would be independent on their own and at the same time contribute immensely to the building of the national economy.
She argued that the development of human skills would fast track development of every sector in the country and charged management of the University to be more focused on research that could help proffer solutions to the country’s challenges through its academic products.
According to her, “One of the ways the private sector and university or educational institutions can collaborate is in research because the industry requires continuous innovation and researches that can solve environmental problems in any given environment”.
While charging the graduated students to be productive in their immediate environments,  Awosika further advised that they should as well work towards making themselves to be self-independent in their different areas of specializations.

Also, the Chancellor of the University, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo charged Nigerian youths to be creative and economic-driven to be self-reliant instead of being job seekers.
In her own remark at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Adenike Kuku, also admonished the private sector to collaborate with private universities in research findings because they will benefit immensely from the outcome.
In a related development, the Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State also said, it would hold its 13th convocation last Thursday, November 4, where 450 undergraduate and postgraduate students would be awarded degrees.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Anthony Akinlo while speaking at a press conference held in the hall of the school, remarked that” the graduating set, called the ‘Dunamis Class,’ had been raised as global leaders and change agents imbued with God-fearing attributes; and they are a distinct brand.”

The VC stated that 381 graduating students would be awarded first degrees while 69 would bag postgraduate degrees, adding that, aside from offering scholarships to members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, the university extended scholarships to foreign students.

According to him, students from Pakistan, Jordan, the Philippines, Rwanda, Libya, and Bangladesh were offered admission into various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

“Another history was made by the university on Sunday, September 19, 2021, when it was pronounced as Nigeria’s best private university in research at the star-studded 15th edition of the prestigious Nigerian Media Nite-Out Award held at the Ikeja Airport Hotel, Lagos,” Akinlo

The vice-Chancellor, however, hinted that Wole Olanipekun, SAN, would be conferred with an honorary doctorate degree of Letters in recognition of his astute leadership qualities and immense contributions to the nation’s educational development.
