Author discusses contemporary national issues in new book

Handbook on Contemporary Issues for Managers, Professionals and Students, has three key focus areas, which is economic matters, professional and students’/social matters.

The author uses the book to target some contemporary issues about these three focus areas, with the first chapter of the book discussing managing the effects of economic recession.

The author discusses the meaning of economic recession, while also giving a history of economic recessions in Nigeria, with part of the effect being a decline in oil non-oil sectors of the economy.

Oyedepo further discuses the effects of economic recession on workers, particularly as it can lead to mass retrenchment of workers because so many organizations will go bankrupt and would no longer continue in business. Apart from the business aspect, recession can also affect individuals, as loss of job can result in self worth, health and wellbeing of such workers.

This chapter also gives tips and strategies through which effects of economic recessions can be managed by workers and government. The second chapter also discusses how to build a sustainable economy, and here, the author gives definitions of economic issues, terms and factors, among others.

This section also focuses on how insecurity is a threat to good governance, and how whistles blowing as panacea for fighting corruption.

The second part of the looks at the roles of professional accountants in value creation, as well as the challenges of professional ac- counting practice, while the third section of the book targets how students can live purposeful and life of service.

It also looks at career development and empowerment, while giving useful tips for academic excellence.

The book is a must read for economists, accountants, government policy advisers, students, among others.

The author, Oyedepo, is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), He is also a member of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered), while he is a recipient of several awards and laurels from different professional associations.
