ATM glitches cause customers to withdraw extra cash in Ireland

On Tuesday, The Bank of Ireland experienced a glitch in their systems that allowed customers to withdraw more money than they had in their accounts for several hours.

Pictures and videos on social media showed long queues at machines in the Republic of Ireland.

According to BBC reports, the bank had been experiencing technical faults, but on Wednesday morning, the issues had been resolved.

The bank claimed the glitch was experienced in multiple branches of the bank.

“We are aware that the technical issue meant some customers were able to withdraw or transfer funds above their normal limits,” the spokesperson said.

The bank warned that transfers and withdrawals would still be applied to customers’ accounts.

“These transfers and withdrawals will be applied to customers’ accounts today.”

The bank apologised for the disruption caused. The spokesperson assured that the issue had been fixed and the bank was fully operational.
