As part of efforts to ensure that teenagers do not engage in immoral acts under the guise of celebrating Valentine’s Day, hundreds of teenagers were feted to an event to expose them to teachings under the ‘Lily Amongst Thorns’ project of the teenagers church of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Oyo Province 2.
The programme which took place at the Holy Ghost Power Cathedral, Oyo Province 2 headquarters, was focused mainly on a training period to tell young ones the love of Christ that positions them to be thoroughly successful in life, fulfilling purpose of God for their love and understanding the basics of Godly love.
The theme for the 2025 edition of Lily Amongst Thorns was ‘Guiding Teenagers in the Pursuit of Godly Love.”
Speaking on the essence of the programme, the organizers stated that in a world where love, relationships and identity are increasingly complex, “Lily Amongst Thorns” offers a beacon of hope and guidance for teenagers.
“This annual program, held every Sunday before Valentine’s Day, is designed to help young people navigate the intricacies of love, sexuality, and relationships from a distinctly Christian perspective.
“Through insightful teachings, engaging discussions and supportive community, “Lilly Amongst Thorns” empowers teenagers to understand love as defined by Christ, develop a biblical worldview on relationships and romance, navigate the challenges of adolescence, including identity and peer pressure, cultivate healthy attitudes towards love, sex, and relationships as well as make informed choices guided by their morals and values
By addressing these critical issues, “Lilly Amongst Thorns” provides a safe and nurturing environment for teenagers to explore, learn, and grow. As they journey through adolescence, this program equips them with the wisdom, confidence, and faith to make a positive impact in their relationships and communities.
“Lilly Amongst Thorns” has expanded to reach more teenagers across Ibadan, with each province of the Redeemed Christian Church of God hosting its own event to empower the next generation to love, live and lead with purpose and integrity.
The teenagers were taught to realistically look at the effects of taking wrong decisions on their future with the aim to put teenagers on the right path and inculcate in them the right virtue that will ensure they explore their potential to take on their world.
The teenagers were taught how to follow the right path and take the right decisions to ensure a bright future devoid of avoidable hazards.
The symposium availed the teenage participants who attended a platform to understand the principles of life as teenagers; discover their purpose, live a life that will ensure their destiny is not truncated, and make them a source of pride in society through basic knowledge on perseverance, self-discipline, godly attributes and biblical teachings on the climb to greatness.
The basic vision of the symposium was to avail the beneficiaries who are both secondary school and university students the opportunity for personal development, spiritual growth, civic responsibilities as well as equipping their leadership potentials while relating with others and above all, independence to resist peer pressure.
