He stated this in an interaction with journalists, just as he noted that just as Christ’s coming is a gift to the world, so should Christians use the occasion of the Christmas celebration to share gifts with others.
“When we celebrate, the joy should radiate to the underprivileged. We should endeavour to share with those who cannot repay us. If you want to follow Christ’s example, the season should be another opportunity to share peace, joy and love,” he stated.
He lamented the state of insecurity in the country, attributing it to hunger, unemployment, greed, dissatisfaction, envy, selfishness, low income, poor distribution of wealth, cowardice, bastardisation of religion, just as he called for urgent measures to address the current state of insecurity.
“Instead of celebrating without meaning, let us repent and do justice wherever we find ourselves. Not minding the many vices, we should endeavour to do good,” he said.
He also called for constructive criticism of government and commended the media for their efforts at disseminating information to the public.
