Socio-political activist and critic, Chief Adesunbo Onitiri on Saturday, vowed that the apostles of June 12 would not rest or waver until Nigerians enjoy maximum good governance in the country.
He made this pledge in Lagos while speaking on the upcoming anniversary of June 12 this year especially as it marks the beginning of a new democratic dispensation in Nigeria.
According to Onitiri, Nigerian democrats have a duty to ensure that the people fully enjoy dividends of democracy, good governance and as a matter of priority, ensure that martyrs in the fight for democracy are duly recognised and celebrated.
“The supreme martyr, late MKO Abiola had been duly recognised as the winner of June 12, 1993 elections. What remains is that his gratuity should be paid to his family.
“Recognition should also be given to Abiola’s wife, the late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola as First Lady who paid a supreme price for Nigeria’s democracy to thrive,” Onitiri advised Tinubu.
He expressed joy that “one of us is now the President and Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces. We are very expectant that with God on our side, he will give us a taste of good governance and our country will not be the same again.”
The social critic also expressed the belief that Tinubu would live up to expectations by improving the country’s economy which had gone down, uniting the country and providing adequate security for Nigerians to live peacefully and happily.
“We shall be fully proud of our country and our green passport again,” he added.
He urged Nigerians not to lose hope as Nigeria would soon be greater than Dubai. “Our country will become the first destination of tourism in Africa.
“Our country is so blessed with all the required natural and human resources, and what is lacking is good leadership which is now available. Nigerians shall be cherished and respected all over the world.”
He implored Nigerians to cooperate with President Tinubu’s administration as he is prepared to give the citizens good governance.
It be recalled that Onitiri and two others obtained the historic landmark judgement of June 12, 1993, that enabled Nigerians to vote during the popular June 12 presidential elections.
