A prominent politician and gubernatorial hopeful in Adamawa State, Chief Maurice Vunoboki, has stated that the impunity and lack of transparency within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will spell doom for the party.
Chief Vunoboki made this revelation during a press conference in Yola, expressing that the party has lost its focus.
He also announced his resignation from the APC, barely two months after joining. He cited a lack of transparency, fairness, and internal democracy within the party as the primary reasons for his departure.
“My resignation took effect from Monday, April 13, 2026”.
He accused Governor Ahamadu Umar Finitri of not keeping to his promise of providing a level playing field to all aspirants.
“Governor Finitri has failed to allow fairness, transparency and justice to particularly in the running of the affairs of party.”
The politician noted that “I joined the APC on February 23, 2026, alongside supporters across the 21 local government areas of Adamawa State after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but a recent events has made me to leave the APC”
“My decision was based on trust and assurances linked to the state’s political leadership, including Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.”
However, Vunobolki alleged that recent actions within both the party and the state government had undermined those assurances.
He added that a committee established to design the framework for ongoing á congresses was dominated by aspirants favoured by the government, leading to what he described as manipulation of the process.
He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in party membership registration, including claims that individuals’ National Identification Numbers were used without their consent to inflate voting strength in certain areas, particularly Yola North.
“My experience during the 2019 APC primaries, where l purchased nomination forms worth N20 million to contest for the Adamawa South Senatorial seat but was sidelined following the alleged imposition of automatic tickets for incumbent lawmakers which lead to losing that election by the party”
“This current political climate is a continuation of past patterns”, he however warned against what he termed a growing culture of imposition over democratic choice.
Despite his resignation, he reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles, stressing that political power should reflect the will of the people rather than be determined through manipulation.
He urged supporters and political aspirants to remain united and hopeful, adding that a new political direction would be announced soon.
