The Youth Wing of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), has commended the administration of Governor Charles Soludo for delivering dividends of democracy across the 179 communities in the state.
They argued that there’s no community in Anambra State that has not benefited from the ongoing transformation policies of the Soludo-led government, particularly in the area of youth empowerment programmes, education and road projects.
The youth gave the commendation during the unveiling of its 179 community role models and community development patrons.
The event which took place at the ASATU Secretariat, Government House, Awka, on Saturday, also featured the inauguration of some new executives and the association’s 2024 end-of-the-year party.
Speaking further, shortly after the unveiling, the National President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, (ASATU Youth Wing), Comrade Ken Okoli, said the unveiling of the role model was in line with Governor Soludo’s policy of promoting Public Private Community Partnership (PPCP) in the state.
Okoli emphasised the mentorship role the patrons are to play in their various communities, declaring that they are expected to inspire youths in their communities through good conduct and community development.
He further explained the rigorous process of selecting the role models, noting that consultation of Traditional Rulers and the President Generals of various communities was done before each individual who has done community development projects was chosen in each of the 179 communities in the state.
While presenting certificates of recognition and awards to the patrons, Okoli charged them to go back to their communities and inspire the youths, assuring that the event will be an annual event.
The ASATU Youth boss, equally called for more proactive development to sustain the momentum of infrastructure across the 179 communities.
Also speaking at the event, the newly inaugurated youth leader of the Nkpo community in Idemili North Council Area of the State, Jideofor Ifeanyi, appreciated the governor for the ongoing fight against insecurity, road construction across the state and other developments embarked upon by his administration within a space of two years and eight months in office.
He, however, appealed to the governor to also consider the reconstruction of the road leading to the School of Nursing Nkpo, to help attract more patronage.
